Effect of Mytilus coruscus selective filtration on phytoplankton assemblages

چکیده
The feeding selectivity of bivalves can play an important role in shaping the structure phytoplankton communities natural waters. This could be particularly true waters with intensive farming, like Sungo Bay, Northern China. Understanding bivalve behavior is for assessing how dense cultivation may affect community composition and food web farm areas. In this study, we investigated blue mussel Mytilus coruscus on assemblages Bay using both optical microscopy HPLC-pigment analysis. Results showed that cryptophytes dominated made up 66.1% total abundance. A comparison between filtered seawater M. preferred dinoflagellates than Chaetoceros spp. Skeletonema Cryptophytes were not detected gut contents by microscopic observation, while their marker pigment alloxanthin was present, suggesting they also consumed readily digested. highlights shortcomings methods significance analysis obtaining a comprehensive understanding bivalves. proportions significantly lower seawater, contrastingly, Cocconeis Pinnularia opposite patterns. pigments prasinoxanthin zeaxanthin indicating picophytoplankton (e.g., prasinophytes Synechococcus ) are sources bivalve. information furthers our aquaculture environment interactions.

In this investigation, we have tested the potential usefulness of variable fluorescence, i.e., the potential photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (F(v)/F(m)), determined with a fast repetition rate fluorometer (FRRF), as an indicator of the effect of metal pollution on natural phytoplankton assemblages. Phytoplankton populations were collected from an eutrophic embayment and exposed to di...

15 صفحه اولCO2-induced pH reduction increases physiological toxicity of nano-TiO2 in the mussel Mytilus coruscus
The increasing usage of nanoparticles has caused their considerable release into the aquatic environment. Meanwhile, anthropogenic CO2 emissions have caused a reduction of seawater pH. However, their combined effects on marine species have not been experimentally evaluated. This study estimated the physiological toxicity of nano-TiO2 in the mussel Mytilus coruscus under high pCO2 (2500-2600 μat...
متن کاملGenetic characterization of Mytilus coruscus and M. galloprovincialis using microsatellite markers.
Korean (hard-shelled) mussels (Mytilus coruscus) are an economically important endemic marine bivalve mollusk of Korea; yet, the population has rapidly declined because of overharvesting and habitat competition from the invasive Mytilus galloprovincialis species. The population structures of M. coruscus and M. galloprovincialis were analyzed by next-generation sequencing using 5 microsatellite ...
